The Indonesian government through the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVG) to improve the status of Merapi Mount from the level of "standby" to "Beware". This status was taken due to activity of Merapi that continues to increase significantly.
That Merapi level will be started on October 25, 2010 and continue to be monitored its development. Meanwhile, based on recommendation of the head of the PVG, all people who lives in a radius of 10 kilometers from the peak of Merapi Mount will be moved to safer place. To do it, PVG will coordinate with local government.
Same thing also were dictated by a volunteer who joined in Community of Merapi Slope. "Its growth is very radical. It makes our preparation to build new monitor outposts constrained. The attention was divided. Now some residents are concentrated to prepare refugee camps and the evacuation will be done immediately," said Capung, one of the volunteers.
Although the government has issued advice to local residents to evacuate immediately but they do not take it very seriously. They still confuse to be evacuated from their home. Their reasons were varied. Most of them said that they have not completed their work.
“Usually, if I see its wedhus gembel (type of cloud) by myself, I’ll just run to save my life, "said Alif, 35, one of Kaliurang residents.
Just like other citizens, the caretaker of Mount of Merapi, or better known as Mbah Maridjan also still lived in his house. "I still want to stay in here. If I go, who will take care of this home," said Mbah Maridjan.
The an old men who has the real name Mas Penewu Suraksohargo is indeed in the know by local people as a person who "keep" Mount of Merapi. So most of them believed what Mbah Marijan said more than what the government said.
