UN Troops Accused of Raping Haitian Man - Rape incident happened to 18 years old male in Haiti. President of Haiti, Michel Martelly, condemned the rape committed by members of the UN, the Uruguayan navy. This shameful action threatens the image of UN peacekeepers in Haiti.
"The president strongly condemns the actions that have been contrary to the conscience of the nation and continues to wait for a report on the facts of actual events," said presidential spokesman in Haiti, as reported by Reuters on Monday (09/05/2011) night.
Incidence of rape recorded in a camera phone that has circulated widely on the Internet. In the recording, the young Haitian men were forced to serve four Uruguay soldiers on the mattress. The incident has caused anger the people of Haiti.
UN officials in Haiti and the Uruguay Defense Department have conducted an investigation and inquiry into the video. Four soldiers allegedly involved have been detained.
Meanwhile, the victim and her mother had testified about the incident on a judge Haiti in Port-Salut.
