Opiuchus, The 13 th Zodiac Sign

New Zodiac Sign 2011 become hot topic now. Previously many people discussed about Facebook’s information that would close on March 15 (Read: Facebook Ending on March 15?). Today,  New Zodiac sign 2011, makes many people “confused”.

As we know, there are 12 Zodiac signs that have been known for long time, from Aquarius until Capricorn. But now, there is a new zodiac sign, namely Ophiuchus. This new zodiac sign not only add the number of zodiac signs that already exist, but also change all zodiac signs date. But there are differences of opinion about it.

Astronomer Parke Kunkle told NBC News this week that for the past several thousand years, we could have been using 13 astrology signs.

“This is not something that happened today. This has gone on for thousands of years," says Kunkle. Because of this change of tilt, the Earth is really over here in effect and Sun is in a different constellation than it was 3,000 years ago." Said Kunkle

Meanwhile, a blogger Melissa Bell , through her writings in Washington Post suggests to people to not change their horoscope just yet.

"Well, Kunkle is an astronomer who is not too keen on the practice of astrology. When asked by telephone if the new star locations now require us all to switch our loyalty to a new sign, he demurred. 'I can tell you what the science is, but I'm not going to tell you what your personality is based on the location of things,'" she wrote and reported.

What is the zodiac exactly? In astronomy, the zodiac is the ring of constellations that lines the ecliptic, which is the apparent path of the Sun across the celestial sphere over the course of the year. The paths of the Moon and planets also lie roughly within the ecliptic, and so are also within the constellations of the zodiac. In astrology, the zodiac denotes those signs that divide the ecliptic into twelve equal zones of celestial longitude. As such, the zodiac is a celestial coordinate system, or more specifically an ecliptic coordinate system, taking the ecliptic as the origin of latitude, and the position of the sun at vernal equinox as the origin of longitude.
