Tsunami that happened on Friday (11/3) due to 8.9 Scale of Richter earthquake (Read: A magnitude 8.9 Earthquake Hits Japan) caused nuclear disaster. Radiation leaking from the four of Fukushima nuclear power plant reactor, the government warned residents to stay indoors to avoid exposure to outside air that has been polluted by radiation.
In a televised statement, Prime Minister Naoto Kan said the radiation spread from four nuclear power reactors in Fukushima Dai-ichi, this happen after the third reactor exploded and the fourth reactor on fire on Tuesday.
"Level of radiation seems high, and still at high risk will be more radiation leaks," Kan said. "We're trying to prevent explosions and maximum radiation leakage further."
This is the worst Japan nuclear disaster since the tragedies of atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This is also the first time the biggest threat of nuclear radiation appears in the world since the Chernobyl incident in 1986.
Ken reminded the residents who stay within a radius of 30 km from the NPP to be in at home to avoid radiation exposure. Around 180 thousand people had previously been evacuated from a radius of 20 km and now it still unclear how many residents living within a radius of 20-30 km.
