The Actual Cost of New iPad - What was the total cost that is spent by Apple to make a unit of new iPad? According to independent research from market research firm of iSuppli, Apple has spend cost of Bill of Materials (BOM) valued at USD 364.35 per unit of iPad WiFi 32GB version + 4G LTE.

Plus the cost of manufacturing, the total is USD 375.10. While the BOM for the iPad 16GB and 64GB 4G LTE amounted to USD 347.55 and USD 397.55. The lowest cost is a 16GB iPad without LTE, which is USD 316.

Apple gets huge enough profits from the latest generation of iPad. For example, the selling price for the 32GB WiFi version + 4G LTE is USD 729. Reduced with manufacturing costs USD 375, then Apple gets the profits around USD 354.


According to iSuppli, the most expensive component is the Retina Display screen that is supplied by Samsung. As quoted from the International Business Times, Monday (3/19/2012), the price that to be paid by Apple for the screen is about $ 87 per unit of New iPad.

iSuppli said that Samsung is the largest supplier of components in the new iPad. Samsung indicated to make the screen, processor, battery and also supply some flash storage in New iPad.

Overall, the cost of New iPad is more expensive than IPAD 2, especially at the screen is now much more sophisticated. So Apple gets a smaller profit margin form new iPad, because the price of New iPad same with iPad 2, but its component price is more expensive.
